Welcome and Introduction
Welcome back. I’m Dr Ozi, and I created this platform to share my experience with the EB-2 NIW green card application category.
Understanding the Biometrics Appointment
After submitting your I-485 application for adjustment of status, you’ll receive a notice for a biometrics appointment. This is a crucial step in the green card application process, and today, I’ll share what it entails and what you need to bring with you.
Receiving the Notice and Setting the Date
Approximately two weeks after submitting our I-485 application, we received a notice of action form, I-797C, in the mail. This form provides details like the location, time, and date of your biometrics appointment, usually set at a local USCIS application support center. If your given date is inconvenient, there’s some flexibility. We managed to attend our appointment a week earlier than the scheduled date.
Required Documents for the Appointment
Make sure to bring the following:
- The notice of action/invitation letter from USCIS.
- A valid photo ID. This can be a passport, driver’s license, national ID card, military ID, or state-issued ID.
On the Day: Rules and Procedures
At the USCIS center, refrain from taking videos or photos. After a brief security check, you’ll wait your turn and be given an “Applicant Information Worksheet” to fill out. This form collects basic details like your name, date of birth, height, weight, eye and hair color, race, and gender.
The Biometrics Process
This appointment primarily focuses on three tasks:
- Taking your photo.
- Collecting your fingerprints.
- Recording a digital signature.
All these steps are necessary for a thorough background check, ensuring you are who you claim to be, and verifying that all information provided is accurate. The appointment typically lasts about 30 minutes.
Concluding Thoughts
After the biometrics appointment, the waiting game begins. If you found this information helpful, please give a thumbs up, share it with friends and family, and leave any further questions in the comments. Additionally, I’ve prepared an e-book on the EB-2 NIW green card application category. Check the description for the link.
