On June 11, 2025, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) implemented a new policy affecting the Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, which is required for green card applicants.
What Changed?
Suppose your Form I-485 (Adjustment of Status/Green Card application) is withdrawn or denied. In that case, your previously submitted Form I-693 will no longer remain valid — even if it was signed by a civil surgeon on or after November 1, 2023.
This means:
-
Reapplying requires a new medical exam.
-
You cannot reuse an old Form I-693.
Why the Change?
USCIS explains that this update is intended to protect public health by ensuring that all applicants’ medical records are current and accurate at the time of adjudication.
Who Is Affected?
-
All pending cases as of June 11, 2025
-
All newly filed cases on or after June 11, 2025
Practical Tip for Applicants
If you are planning to file a new Form I-485, be prepared to submit a fresh Form I-693 to avoid delays or denials.
