USCIS Update: New Filing Fee Payment Rules You Need to Know

Stay informed with the latest news, updates, and changes in U.S. immigration laws that could impact your EB-2 NIW or EB-1A visa application.

USCIS has just announced a major update to how applicants can pay their filing fees. The change is designed to make the process faster, safer, and less prone to errors or fraud.

What’s Changing?

USCIS is rolling out ACH Direct Debit Payments using the new Form G-1650. This means applicants will now have the option to pay filing fees directly from a U.S. bank account.

Key benefits include:

  • Faster processing — no more waiting for checks or money orders to clear

  • Reduced risk of fraud or lost payments

  • Streamlined application processing

Transition Timeline

  • Now through October 28, 2025: USCIS will continue to accept checks and money orders.

  • After October 28, 2025: Only two payment methods will be accepted:

    • ACH Direct Debit (Form G-1650)

    • Credit card payments (Form G-1450), including prepaid cards

⚠️ Important: To use Form G-1650, you must have a U.S. bank account. If you don’t, you can still pay with a credit card.

Why the Change?

This update is part of Executive Order 14247: Modernizing Payments to and from America’s Bank Account, which directs federal agencies to modernize payment systems and reduce reliance on paper-based transactions.

What You Should Do Now

If you’re planning to submit a petition soon:

  1. Make sure you have access to a U.S. bank account if you plan to use ACH.

  2. If not, ensure you have a valid credit card or prepaid card ready.

  3. Download and review the new Form G-1650 before filing your petition.
